Crowden School with Owen Dalby

  • Crowden School 1475 Rose Street Berkeley, California, 94702 United States (map)

The Dolphins Quartet reshapes the canon with their collaborative Along the Open Road, alongside Villa-Lobos and Chausson.

Most quartets play the canon. The Dolphins write into it. Their new Along the Open Road, composed collaboratively by all four members, opens a program alongside two composers who did the same—Villa-Lobos's First Quartet, in which he builds a Brazilian voice from folk material and his own ear, and Chausson's expansive Concerto, Op. 21, where the quartet becomes an orchestra around violinist Owen Dalby and pianist Eric Zivian. Presented in partnership with Stanford's Emerging String Quartet Program.

Program:

THE DOLPHINS Along the Open Road

VILLA-LOBOS String Quartet no. 1

CHAUSSON Concerto for violin, piano, and string quartet, Op. 21
